Mirusha Waterfalls
Thirteen pools, twelve cascades, and a limestone canyon most travellers drive straight past.
The Mirusha river has cut a narrow canyon through soft limestone, leaving a staircase of thirteen lakes joined by twelve waterfalls. The largest drop is around twenty-two metres, into a pool deep enough to swim in.
It is a regional park, signposted from the Peja–Prizren road, and it is almost always quieter than it deserves to be.
What it actually is
A short but steep canyon walk from the car park down to the main falls, with the upper lakes reachable on foot for anyone comfortable on rock.
What it feels like
Warm stone, cold water, and the sound of the falls arriving before you see them.

We come early, before the day-trippers, swim in the main pool, and eat afterwards in a village on the way to Prizren.

When to visit
May and June for full water flow; July and August for swimming. Winter access is limited after rain.
Getting there
About an hour by road from Prishtina, thirty-five minutes from Gjakova, signposted off the main road near Kijevë.
